Cassette Tape Collection: Strawberry Switchblade

This is not the first time I have mentioned " Strawberry Switchblade " on this blog , as well featuring their music videos. But they remain a huge part of my memory impressions of the 80s, with music genre veering towards synth-imaginary limbo-dreams of Scritti Politti, Dream Academy et al - and an opposition to the explosions of Depeche Mode et al. And who can't love the name " Strawberry Switchblade "? LOL WHO-IS: "Strawberry Switchblade was a female pop rock band formed in Scotland in 1981 by Jill Bryson and Rose McDowall, best known for their song "Since Yesterday" in 1985." [ Wiki ] And as well their choice of performance-wear and identity was the single most unique of that era, imbedded in my memory, which as well first introduced the concept of Lolita-wear over 2 decades ago - which now still remains as strong within the cosplay-culture, I reckon. I Was A Failed Centrepoint Kid

VID DESCRIPTION: "A documentary excerpt on Centrepoint Kids - notorious, colourful, Singapore mall kids of the 80. This footage is taken from FEEDBACK, a popular current affairs show of the 80s. This is a promotional video for Wee Li Lin's upcoming fictional short film "Centrepoint Kidz" www.facebook.com/centrepointkidz" ( 27 Mar 2015 ) I was a failed Centrepoint Kid. I couldn't really make it in the fashion nor attitude department. Sure we hung around the top 5th floor of Centerpoint the shopping complex (aren't really used to nor know of the word "mall"), stared down at girls on the top 5th floor, everyone of whom looked pretty "cute" at such a distance … and sure some of us will adopt the well known local equivalent of a mating call of the urban jungle: " choot " or whistle at the girls to catch their attention … then all 5 or 7 of us would split up into different groups or individuals and stand at different ares apart ...

"It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)" by Eurythmics

WHAT-IS: " "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)" is a song written and recorded by the British pop music duo Eurythmics. It was released as the fourth and final single from their 1985 album Be Yourself Tonight. The song was produced by Dave Stewart, and the song's distinctive brass arrangement was devised by Michael Kamen. The single became Eurythmics' tenth Top 20 hit in the UK where it peaked at number 12, but was less successful in the United States, stalling at number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100. As songwriters, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart received the 1986 Ivor Novello award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically." The Sunday Flea Market @ Clarke Quay (circa early-2000s)

Snaps from the Sunday Flea Market, at Clarke Quay, around early-to-mid 2000, before it got turned into the (wannabe) posh nightlife and food venue it is now. Every application was held Tuesday evening, where you are either drawn to display your wares indoors (two stories, with air conditioning), or outdoors, facing the streets, lined thru to the Satay Club, to the back where nobody goes to except kidswho bug their parents to hahahaha I am sure I took plenty of photographs (all printed, none digital), but alas all I am left with now, are low-res scans of that one table that one time I got drawn for an indoor table (2nd floor, no less hahaha). Will update more pics if I can find them :p
