"It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)" by Eurythmics

WHAT-IS: " "It's Alright (Baby's Coming Back)" is a song written and recorded by the British pop music duo Eurythmics. It was released as the fourth and final single from their 1985 album Be Yourself Tonight. The song was produced by Dave Stewart, and the song's distinctive brass arrangement was devised by Michael Kamen. The single became Eurythmics' tenth Top 20 hit in the UK where it peaked at number 12, but was less successful in the United States, stalling at number 78 on the Billboard Hot 100. Cassette Tape Collection: Strawberry Switchblade

This is not the first time I have mentioned " Strawberry Switchblade " on this blog , as well featuring their music videos. But they remain a huge part of my memory impressions of the 80s, with music genre veering towards synth-imaginary limbo-dreams of Scritti Politti, Dream Academy et al - and an opposition to the explosions of Depeche Mode et al. And who can't love the name " Strawberry Switchblade "? LOL WHO-IS: "Strawberry Switchblade was a female pop rock band formed in Scotland in 1981 by Jill Bryson and Rose McDowall, best known for their song "Since Yesterday" in 1985." ADDED 12.10.08: Due to overwhelming request (more than 1 request is overwhelming for this particular blog L:OL) - I have actually found Tokyo Square's "Within You'll Remain"! remember this? (not actual video) i can imagine the grimace on some folks faces, as they recognize the opening melody, especially us "slightly mature adults" (*cough*) ... the young'uns would probably go: *huh? "Let It Be" Songbooks of the 80s & The Lyrics of Lost Times

I had a conversation the other week (with fellow geekaloid Si Ling at rehab), about the lack of "lyrics-appreciation" (or sumach banality) in songs and the scene these days. I remember in the mid-to-late-80s, where there existed song lyrics collected and printed in entire telephone-book thick tomes of books. Sing titles ranged around song-titles from then-pop titles to old school classics like the Beatles' "Let It Be" - which I suspected were for guitarists or musicians, who needed to refer to song-lyrics in their performances, or practices (Milli Vanilli might have missed out on this book). And we gathered groups to sing from it! Like a practicing "band", we would sing along to the lyrics in the book - and while we were hardly what-you-would-call a true-blue bebop or harmony-band (aka we suck lol), it felt as if we were truly part of a band, like the ones we listened to on the radio and on cassettes! Mind you, this was a decade or so before ...

the music of dick lee in the 80's

Admittedly, I used to lurve Dick Lee songs - especially the earlier ones (and still do lah), the first song evah heard being FLOWER DRUM SONG. From out of my little mono-speaker'd white and black Panda cassette player (wish I had a picture of it now tho :p) - for which I used to record songs off the radio and unto cassette-tape. The frustrating thing about that song, was that the Radio DJs just yammered on (and on and on and on) when the song started, and even before the song ended, but didn't mention the song's name or singer! Radio DJs back then always like dat one lor! (Or maybe I was slow LOL). Somehow I heard the song again in a music shop and immediately recognized the strains of the Chinese/ Mandarin lyrics (which were from a Chinese folksong).
